Commission responds to Polis' call to support transport sector during COVID-19
The European Commission has today responded to a call for a more action to support the transport sector during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The letter, from Commissioner Adina Vălean, Commissioner of Transport in the European Commission, came in response to a joint call from leading European transport organisations for a coordinated response to support the transport industry in this challenging time. Polis was pleased to be a signatory to this letter alongside IRU, UITP, CER and EUROCITIES.
The response from Commissioner Adina Vălean outlines the European Commission's strong committment to pursuing measures to overcome the impact of COVID-19 on Europe's transport system and mobility in general.
The letter recognises that the continuity of public transport and local mobility services is vital to ensure that essential workers and professionals can continue to work in a safe environment, and that best practices are being pursued. The letter also states that passenger transport services can benefit from financial support under revised State Aid rules during this time.
