Clic.cat promotes safety with on-demand stops on night buses
This summer, POLIS member Catalonia's Clic.cat nightline, which connects Girona with Salt, Platja d’Aro, Palamós, and Palafrugell, will maintain the service of stops on demand.
The service began in February as a pilot test by the Department of the Territory to strengthen safety on night bus services, especially for young people and women. Previously, night buses only stopped at the most central stops in each city or town, making them sometimes unsuitable for nightlife. To address this issue, for the first time, Catalonia implemented several on-demand stops next to campsites and nightclubs to the existing night bus line.
A new schedule to meet demand
The bus started its summer schedule this week and will run every day, from Monday to Sunday, until 31 August. While, from September to June, it operates during the weekends and on the eve of public holidays.
The line features a total of 15 stops on demand, including 7 along the way and 8 on the return. Buses detour or stop only if a prior request from the customer is made through the Clic.cat service via the NE-MI mobile application, up to one hour before the beginning of the expedition.
The request can be made for both the origin and destination, and the user will have the ability to track the location of the vehicle in real time, approach the stop with minimal advance notice, and avoid waiting at the stop.
Leisure areas
The on-demand stops are concentrated at the most frequented points between Palamós and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, especially in the leisure areas.
The intention is that the most vulnerable users, in particular women and young people, get as close as possible to their destination, thus walking less time alone and avoiding risky situations.
Clic.cat
Clic.cat is the digitised on-demand transport service that is provided by an application. It is a service that has accounted for nearly 42,500 travellers since its launch in the Girona region in 2019. The Department of Territory has 38 Clic.cat lines in operation. The aim is to digitise and transform into Clic.cat the 197 remaining DRT lines of the Generalitat, which serve 712 municipalities. On-demand transport has established routes and timetables but is only provided if there are prior reservations. In this way, vehicles and routes can be adjusted to real demand, avoiding inefficient routes and CO2 emissions.
