UK Government to fast-tracked e-scooters to tackle COVID-19
Electric scooter trials will be fast-tracked in England as part of a bid to get people back to work using alternatives to public transport after the lockdown.
The government will bring forward trials of e-scooters to next month. Grant Shapps MP, the transport secretary, will also announce plans to invest £250 million in cycle lanes.
Ministers are concerned that the return of the rush hour would risk a significant increase in the spread of coronavirus. They want workplaces to stagger people’s start times so they can ensure social distancing is maintained. Bicycles and electric scooters are seen as potential alternatives.
