Registration to the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development is open

The HABITAT Conferences of the UN are organised once every 20 years to discuss about urban developments, identify and address new and emerging challenges, assess accomplishments to date and set goals related to urbanisation worldwide. At a time when urbanisation is stronger than ever, the biggest objective of the upcoming HABITAT III Conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable urban development. The conference will result in a concise, focused, forward-looking and action-oriented outcome document, called the New Urban Agenda. This document will cover priorities for city development for the next 20 years.

In addition to the UN Members States, who are going to vote on the New Urban Agenda, a variety of other stakeholders are invited to participate in the conference, such as local and regional government, academia, civil society organisations, trade unions, the private sector, etc. In addition to the main conference, there will be a number of other events, such as networking events, side events, training events, exhibition, etc. An overview is available on the HABITAT III website. To register, please go to the registration page.

Polis has applied for organising a side event on the topic of “Designing liveable cities for health through low‐carbon transport” and we are waiting results from the selection process. Polis has also taken part in the Habitat III Regional Meeting in Prague, together with Polis Member Dresden, as reported here.
