Aalborg
The city of Aalborg is the main city of the North Jutland region in northern Denmark. The urban population of the city is approximately 140 000, which rises to around 220 000 for the whole of the Aalborg municipal area. With 1900km of roads, Aalborg is the third largest and most populous municipality in Denmark.
Aalborg has aimed to foster more energy efficient and sustainable transport options by investing in its bicycle friendly infrastructure and by promoting innovative measures. This was particularly shown by Aalborg's involvement in the NICHES+ project as one of the champion cities chosen for developing effective implementation of innovative transport measures.
The city has also expressed its commitment to climate neutrality and sustainable urban mobility by joining the Call for the European Commission's Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities mission.
As Aalborg continues to experience rapid growth, a key focus has also been to redesign its urban waterfront in favour of residential housing, restaurants, retail facilities and more, rendering it an area of significant recreational value for its citizens.
