Registrations now open for the Just Transition Webinar series!

The Just Transition Taskforce is ready to go full throttle with its new Webinar series, now open for registrations. What does a 'just transition' really mean, and how do we achieve it in urban mobility? Come join us to find out!

It is official: the Just Transition Taskforce’s brand new Webinar series has now opened for registrations!

The Just Transition Webinars aim to provide a space for discussion on the points of action to be made to elevate inclusion, diversity, and accessibility at the heart of all urban mobility policies.

Following the launch of our Just Transition Agenda in 2021, the webinars will traverse in detail the multifaceted ways affordability, gender-related mobility patterns, age, cognitive capacities (and more) can guide the future mobility of our cities and regions.

To addresses imbalance and unfairness across the entire mobility spectrum, several online events will be held from February to March 2023, with each webinar examining mobility justice from a specific perspective, in accordance with POLIS’ different Working Groups. From freight to parking, traffic efficiency to active travel, electromobility to safety — and everything in between — we begin to discuss how each sector has its part to play, the challenges ahead, and how cities and regions are treading new ground.

This follows in the steps of our hugely successful Mobilising Mobility and Public Transport Lab webinar series, to support our cities and regions translating their ambitions into concrete action!

Thinking about which one you should attend? While some webinars are for POLIS members only, others will be available to the public to raise awareness and share relevant insights on the issue.

Fear not – as the entire series features a wide range of topics, there is plenty to sink your teeth into: find out all about each webinar below!

Access: Why do people need cars? Car dependency and city’s policy response

7 February; 14:00-15:00 CET

Car dependency strongly determines the acceptance of urban vehicle access regulations. If you don’t have or see an alternative to using the car, any measure to curb car use is perceived as a threat.

We hear from cutting-edge research on this topic, exploring effective policy responses.

Active Travel & Health: Fostering active travel for people with disabilities

With many cities taking different actions to fight car dependency and trying to prioritise active travel, are they also ensuring that disabled people are part of the equation?

Regions: Addressing urban-rural transport divisions

21 February; 14:00-15:30 CET

Across Europe, there is currently a substantial gap between urban, peri-urban and rural transit offerings.

This webinar will examine where and why these gaps exist, and explore how new technologies and improved regional governance structures can propel progress.

Small & Medium-Sized Cities: Gender mainstreaming done right!

28 February; 14:00-15:00 CET

There has been a range of initiatives to identify and challenge the ways mobility ignores and indeed further marginalises women.

However, while actions in European Capitals capture headlines, it is in fact in our smaller and medium-sized cities where some of the most pioneering strategies are to be found.

Governance & Integration: What about the jobs?

Safety & Security: Reallocation of Space, Time, and Danger

9 March; 14:00-15:00 CET

Traffic deaths and serious injuries are neither a ‘neutral’ nor an ‘inevitable’ by-product of urban mobility.

The reallocation of space and time is a necessary condition for relieving the so-called “vulnerable road users” from a disproportional allocation of danger.

Urban Freight: Challenges for the labour market

14 March; 14:00-15:30 CET

This webinar explores and investigates also what big retailers are doing to make sure that fair and just conditions for workers are in place.

We also examine innovative initiatives that aim to upskill the workforce and new job opportunities that ensure a more sustainable urban freight.

Air Quality & Clean Vehicles: Making EV charging a reality for people with disabilities

21 March; 15:00-16:00 CET

The uptake of EVs must include sufficient charging infrastructure, as proposed under AFIR.

We also need to make sure that the transition to electromobility is inclusive and that the needs of people with disabilities, as well as the elderly, are fully considered in the design of EV chargers and surrounding areas. This webinar explores just how!

Traffic Efficiency: Towards digitalisation in transport, no one left behind

28 March; 14:00-15:00 CET

Digitalisation of transportation services benefits several stakeholders, including passengers.

However, the rising use of digital technology in transportation services, such as shared mobility and public transportation, also places new demands on (possible) travelers and not everyone is able to meet these demands (or wants to).

How to ensure that digitalisation doesn’t create more inequality in transport?
